"Requiem"
by Bobby Mitchell

A slow train of the blues
rumbles thru the night
taking me back
to Birdland
to a horn reborn
in mood indigo
on a night in Tunisia
and Miles Smiles

in the light
of hot swing night speakeasy ginhouse
cool blue

Diz and Bird now gone
swinging with Louis
the saint of Dixieland
swinging to King Oliver's groove
paying those dues

with bebop and rebop
a song redefined

sublime
too cool
and so beautiful too
pulling rhythm
out of thin air

and suddenly
you're there
and I'm there with you
too

Pulling this slow train of the blues.
