Swing Set

Outside Georgetown, Highway 521
Separates from US 17-A towards Andrews.
At this point, the road is becoming four lanes.
The black swamp bottom suggests
These are wetlands.
And I do not mind the fact
That two roadside stores will
Be taken down for progress.
Yet, my heart has stopped each time,
Today the worst.
The swing set is gone!
The house disassembled
Dream by dream.
The skeleton remains.
Dreams evicted
From the garden.
No more voluntary ejections
From the swing to see
If one can become gravity free.
Gone dreams dreamed,
Plans planned, forts and clubs
With no girls allowed,
Or tea times with Pooh?
The shade tree uprooted,
Its roots burned in the mass
Of vegetation that the
Paper mill rejected.
Make way, make way,
Four lanes is king.
Make way, make way,
Azaleas, roses, camellias,
Canna lilies all,
Make way.
